The Monteria is a uniquely Spanish way of hunting. In Spanish law, an estate of 500 hectares or more can only be hunted on 1 day each year. Consequently the estate cull plan has to be completed on this one day.
The Monteria is a traditional Spanish formal driven hunt often involving over 20 Guns with numerous beaters and hundreds of dogs. The dogs are released into the hunting area and are worked from one side of the estate to the other to ensure that the majority of the animals are moved towards the Guns prepositioned throughout the Estate. This style of hunting results in large mixed bags of wild boar and deer, including trophy animals being shot on the day.
